Marked by charming gatehouses and tantalizing long tree-lined drives, an incredibly intact string of estates lies tucked behind the modest gates and low stone walls of Woods Road between Tivoli and Germantown. Built by the members of the Livingston family, they were the physical manifestation of an intricate web of intra-familial relationships. Today they serve as shining examples of preservation, stewardship, and pride of place. Each has witnessed their share of ups and downs, changes in fortune and colorful stories. In this talk, I will focus on their collective history, the connection between the families that lived in them, some of their interesting residents and their contemporary role in our region (with an occasional gossipy aside for good measure).
