The Family of Sara Delano Roosevelt, mother of the 32nd President and a prominent member of New York Society, made much of their fortune in the trade of opium in China. This lecture will focus on how the Delanos ended up in this dangerous business along with other prominent families from the area, and the ethical consequences of being a part of it. We will also examine what the Delano family did with their wealth back home in the states.
