The View from Here: New York State Stories
A performance program with The Storycrafters
The Greenport Historical Society invites you to join them on Thursday, September 19 at 7 PM where, following a brief business meeting, The Storycrafters will treat us to an evening of storytelling. New York has a rich tradition of storytelling and, in this program, Jeri Burns and Barry Marshall will tell some tales from the Hudson Valley and beyond. As an extra bonus, they will share how they research and craft them. You will hear a little about how history, local context and personal experience are woven right into their award-winning work. This performance program will be a little like going to see a theatrical production and taking a tour backstage afterward to see how it was done.
Barry Marshall, and Jeri Burns, PhD, internationally acclaimed storytellers and recording artists, are the 2018 recipients of the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Award. Their 2018 book, Storytwisting, published by Parkhurst Brothers Publishers, was the winner of the 2019 Storytelling World Award. Jeri and Barry are also healing storytellers at the Stamford CT Hospital psychiatric unit, and were adjunct college faculty at Southern CT State University. Jeri is adjunct college faculty at SUNY New Paltz, and communication coach of public defenders for the New York State Defenders Institute, Albany NY. Barry is sound engineer and producer of storytelling recordings at Our Old House Studio, Hudson NY. www.storycrafters.com
